Apollonian Gasket T-Shirt

¥3,229 JPY (plus tax)

Draw three circles that all touch, inside a bigger circle. In every curved gap between them there's exactly room for one more circle that touches all its neighbours. Add it, and you've made new gaps, each holding another circle. Keep going forever, and you get the Apollonian gasket.

It's named after Apollonius of Perga, who studied touching circles over 2,000 years ago. In 1643 René Descartes found a simple formula linking the sizes of any four touching circles, and that formula draws every circle in this design.

A fractal of endless circles in white on a dark shirt. Ancient geometry that never runs out of room.
