Sunflower Phyllotaxis T-Shirt

¥3,229 JPY (plus tax)

How does a sunflower pack its seeds so perfectly? Each new seed grows about 137.5° round from the last: the golden angle. Because that angle is as far from a simple fraction as a number can be, the seeds never line up into straight rows, and no space is wasted.

Look closely and spirals appear, curling both ways. Count them and you'll find Fibonacci numbers, just as on a real sunflower head or pine cone.

Here 700 seeds are placed by Vogel's model, with each seed's distance from the centre growing as the square root of its number. Nature's own geometry, printed in white on a dark shirt.
