Sunflower Phyllotaxis T-Shirt – Cyan & Magenta
A Fibonacci T-shirt that shows its working: 700 sunflower seeds placed by the golden angle, coloured so the spirals hidden in a sunflower head leap out in cyan and magenta on a dark shirt.
Each new seed grows about 137.5° round from the last, and together the seeds settle into spirals curling both ways. Towards the edge, seeds whose numbers are 34 apart sit side by side, so stepping through them 34 at a time traces out 34 spirals. We've painted them alternately: 17 cyan, 17 magenta. And 34 is a Fibonacci number, like the spiral counts on real sunflowers, pine cones and pineapples.
